And just like that round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are over.  The Avalanche, Stars, Blue Jackets and Islanders have traded in their hockeys sticks for golf clubs and are enjoying that offseason life.  Some exits were more dramatic than others, but I’ll get to that in a minute, and now we are down to the final four.  Again, I thought it would be fun to rank my favorite series of round 2 and even though I am not a huge fan of any of the remaining teams I am thoroughly entertained this post season.

#4. Boston Bruins | Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets were unable to eliminate the Boston Bruins *insert all the eye roll emojis*.  It just boggles my mind that the Blue Jackets were shut out in an elimination game.. seriously how is that acceptable?  Tuukka Rask has been a force and I think it’s safe to say he is a front runner for the Conn Smythe Trophy.  This series was a tough one for me because on one hand Marchand and his post season antics need to go but on the other it did make me giddy to see one last angry post game interview courtesy of John Tortorella.

#3. St. Louis Blues | Dallas Stars

This was just an enjoyable series to watch.  What’s better than a game 7?  How about a game seven that requires two overtimes to name a winner?  I was really happy when Patrick Maroon signed with his hometown team and the fact that he scored the series winning goal in St. Louis made my heart soar.  To add to this story Jordan Binnington, who is nominated for the Calder Trophy… as in the award given to the best rookie .. yes rookie.. has been the backbone of this team.  I think I’m secretly rooting for St. Louis to win it all and see Pietrangelo and O’Reilly get what they deserve.  #LetsGoBlues

#2. San Jose Sharks | Colorado Avalanche

I don’t think I realized how much I wanted the Avs to win until I saw them on the wrong end of the handshake line in game 7.  Don’t get me wrong I LOVE Erik Karlsson and want nothing more than to see him skate around with the Stanley Cup.. however I will always root for the underdog in a playoff series.  San Jose forward Logan Couture has my vote for the Conn Smythe Trophy and has been lights out this post season.  I suppose the silver lining for this series is there’s still a chance I can witness Joe Thornton finally win the Stanley Cup, and what hockey fan doesn’t want that.

#1. Carolina Hurricanes | NY Islanders

I loved this series for a few reasons.  The Carolina Hurricanes swept the NY Islanders who swept the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round… how great is that?  I thought this series would go six or seven games with the Islanders advancing (but then again every prediction I have ever made has been wrong).  The Carolina Hurricanes seem to be the team that keeps on keeping on and again I am totally here for it.  At this point I really hope the Carolina Hurricanes come out of the Eastern Conference.  They have provided so much entertainment this season and don’t even get me started about their post season shock value.
