Hockey fans we finally made it!   The Stanley Cup Finals are upon us.  The Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues are battling for the Stanley Cup.  It honestly seems like yesterday I was feeling pumped for the first round matchups and now here we are, time really does fly.

The Boston Bruins made it out of the Eastern Conference after sweeping the Carolina Hurricanes.  Carolina couldn’t seem to find their rhythm this round and only scored five goals in the series.  I’d like to think most of that was because of Rask’s play however the Bruins also scored 17 goals showing clear offensive dominance.

Carolina gave us an amazing story this post season and gave their fans a reason to be excited for next year.  I always find it funny that for teams like Toronto and Nashville it’s a huge failure if they don’t bring home the Cup but for others like Carolina and St. Louis it’s an accomplishment to even get into the playoffs.  Due to the frenzy around the Hurricanes I was hoping they would make it to the finals but it just wasn’t meant to be this season.

There is one good story still alive this post season, thank god!  The St. Louis Blues eliminated the San Jose Sharks in game 6.  I’m already requesting “Started from the Bottom” be played before each St. Louis home game because a team that was 31st in the league in January is now 4 wins away from the Stanley Cup Final.

The San Jose Sharks simply ran out of luck in the Conference Finals.  It seems like injuries really caught up to this team and in game 6 they were missing three very important pieces to their roster.  Karlsson, Pavelski and Hertl all sat out and Coach DeBoer couldn’t find a way to make up for their absences.  I wasn’t sad the Sharks were eliminated but at this point you gotta feel for Joe Thornton.

Between Chara and Pietrangelo I will root for #27 to lift the Stanley Cup all day every day.  I can’t say I’m excited to see the finals in Boston (again) but St. Louis quietly became a great story this season and I always liked Maroon and O’Reilly.  My gut is telling me Boston but I really hope it ends up being St. Louis in 6.  Who is your pick?
